30 Day Startup — Day 1: Lean Canvas
2 min readNov 10, 2020
Aside from the delay to start, hit the ground running filling out a lean canvas in this blog post (trying not to do anything more than once)
1. Problem
- Entrepreneurship thinking isn’t taught in early education
- Parents are always looking for extra-circular activities for their kids during periods when they’re away from school
- Parents are always time poor
2. Customer Segments
- Parents and caregivers of early aged children (3–5, 6–12)
- Principals of schools with afterschool/teacher only day programmes
- Private Tutors
- Parents in lockdown countries
3. Unique Value Proposition
- Keeping children occupied with important universal soft skills
- We provide an engaging and educational way for parents to teach entrepreneurship to their children
4. Solution
- Digital courses that provide education lesson plans for parents to teach entrepreneurial thinking to their children
5. Channels
- Linkedin to founders
- School newsletters?
- Parent/child-focused Facebook groups
- Paid Advertising
6. Revenue Streams
- $50-100 early pre-orders
- Bulk license purchases (discounts)
7. Cost Structure
Not including my own time
- $50 for website/hosting/domain
- $300 paid advertising
- $50–100 for coffees with people/contributors
~$500.00 Total (low-balling here)
8. Key Metrics
- 25 pre-orders at $50 will break even, and I’ll create the course.
- Number of sign-ups for interest
- Parent Interest levels and likelihood to refer
9. Unfair Advantage
- Access to successful founders who could contribute and accredit the programme here in New Zealand
- Direct channels in entrepreneurial space in New Zealand
- Domain knowledge of primary education pays space
Tomorrow’s plan:
- A quick look into what’s out there here in NZ and globally
- What is most important to validate?
- Off the back of that, get out sign-up page for interest
- Potentially A/B Test two different sign-up pages with paid-advertising
- Post in forums to gather interest (Reddit etc)
- Hours worked: 1
- Revenue collected: 0
- Total expenses: $0
- Profit: $0
